I train as an actor because I intend to master every part of this craft. Acting has informed both my writing and directing abilities. A writer who has never had to say her own dialogue aloud does not know what she is asking for. A director who has never stood on the other side of the camera is guessing at what she is asking a person to give.

Understanding the mind of the actor taught me what a line actually costs to say, and what a screenplay can become off of the page. My studies have taught me how to ask for what I want in language a performer recognizes instead of describing a feeling and hoping.

I understand what my words will unfold like on screen.
